Frequently asked questions about Bengals

Do the males have different temperaments than the females?

Because Bengals have such strong individual personalities, I haven’t noticed any strongly sex-identified traits. The two sexes are physically very different with the males being bigger and heavier; while the females are slimmer and smaller. I do notice different personalities from female to female, passed to their offspring. For instance, all of Salsa's offspring love my Australian Shepherd and all of Spyder's offspring love to watch TV. All Bengals are very gregarious, wanting to be with their family included in everything that's going on. They are very busy and active, generally helping out by highly entertaining acrobatics.

How big do they get?

Fully mature males can weigh from 12 to as much as 18 pounds. Females are smaller, with 10 to 12 pounds being a good size. It takes 2 to 3 years for them to attain their full growth. It's not uncommon for a 8 to 10 month old male to weigh over 10 pounds.

What do they eat?

Usually they will choose one brand of cat food, and be quite happy with it. We usually feed ours dry Iams, and then feed them canned food in the morning and evening, generally Iams or some other high grade food.  Once in a while we treat with a cooked chicken.

Are they different from other cats?

Their personalities are remarkably different than other cats. Some people have remarked that they are more like dogs than cats, because they are so very responsive.  They’re easy to train because they are so smart. Also, because they’re very smart, they can be persistant about getting what they want, whether it’s your attention or some identified object.

Shipping Information

For our Bay Area customers, we can often deliver kittens, because our landscaping business frequently takes us to the Bay Area.
In addition, we have a home in Sebastopol where sometimes particular kittens can be viewed, by special arrangement.

We will ship cats or kittens anywhere within the US or Canada from the San Francisco Airport. We can ship overseas, but special arrangements must be made, depending upon the destination. We select the airlines we ship on with the safety of the kittens in mind, and the care they will receive enroute.

We prefer to ship cargo, rather than counter to counter as the kittens receive the same care, and are shipped in the same plane, side by side with kittens shipped counter to counter. The weather must be good, insuring that the kittens won't get too hot or cold. We have to attach a current health certificate, and also a  Rabies certificate if the kitten is over 14 weeks old. With cargo, you can insure the value of the kitten. As cargo, the cost is usually $80-100.
